Wear orange and crazy socks to support diversity
What is Harmony Day?
It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange on Harmony Day to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
What is World Down Syndrome Day?
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on the 21st of March each year. Durham Road School will use the Lots of Socks theme created by Down Syndrome International to celebrate and start conversations about Down Syndrome. On this day, we ask that your child wear socks of their choice to school. They can be bright, colourful, short or long, the choice is endless.
